FT: US afraid of the growing influence of Russia in Greece
The USA are afraid of the political consequences of economic decline in Greece and the possible increase of Russian influence on the country-member of NATO, writes in the Sunday print edition.

As the magazine stresses, as long as Washington is trying to unite the Western front to support sanctions against Russia, a Greek default could give Moscow the opportunity to embroil America's allies in the European Union.

"The concerns are that the ongoing economic instability, which may end in a default, will increase political hostility of the Greek electorate in relation to the rest of Europe that will open up the possibility for the Russian Federation to strengthen influence in the country," writes the print edition.

According to a senior scientist of the American Council on international vzaimootnosheniam Sebastian Mallaby which leads the magazine, this situation will be for the Russian Federation's geopolitical gift ".

according to the newspaper, the visit of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in St. Petersburg, where he was economic forum, showed the existing "political connections" of the Greek government with Vladimir Putin, and demonstrated the intention of Greece to turn to Moscow in those periods when the differences with the creditors the most aggravated.

As pointed out in print for a number of months, the administration of U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama appealed to Germany and other EU members with an urgent request to find out the Greek problem.
