The Parliament of Ukraine adopted the law on local elections
The Parliament of Ukraine adopted in the General Law on local elections, which makes a number of changes in the conduct of elections to bodies of local self-government.

Elections to local authorities are obliged to take place on 25 October of the current year. In the transitional provisions of the act stipulates that regular Elections to local government bodies in Crimea and city of Sevastopol, and similarly in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, is scheduled for October 25, not to conduct " in connection with the Commission of the Russian Federation temporary occupation and military aggression against Ukraine ". The adoption of the law at the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday upheld 257 parliamentarians with the necessary minimum of 226 votes.

The law provides that regional, city and district councils will be elected by a proportional system with open lists, and the Election of people's deputies of village councils - by the majority system in the majority. The new Law provides for a ban on the self-nomination of candidates and increase the electoral threshold for parties from 3% to 5%.

Mayors of cities with populations of more than 90 thousand people are invited to choose a majoritarian system of absolute majority. If none of the candidates wins 50% of voters came to the Election, a second ballot for the 2 candidates who received the highest Number of votes. In settlements with a population of not more than 90 thousand people Elections will be held under the majority system of relative majority (in one round).

The law implies a reduction of the maximum number of the deputies of local councils. The number of deputies will be determined by the Central election Commission (CEC) before the beginning of the electoral process in the next elections based on the number of voters that belong to the relevant territorial community. The minimum Number of the deputies of the Council will be - 16, with the number of voters up to a thousand people, the maximum is 120, with the number of voters more than 2 million people.
