The death toll in a train blast near Rostov-on-Don reaches two, another six people were injured, investigators, who are working on the site of the accident, told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

A man died of injuries on the site, while a woman died in a hospital.

The blast ripped through the train running from Vladikavkaz to Moscow 70 kilometres off Rostov-on-Don at 08:20 Moscow time.

Preliminary investigation proves that domestic gas caused the blast in a dining car.

"No destructive agents that explosive devices usually contain were found on the site of the blast. Investigators found fragments of one gas tank, the other one remained intact," the source said.
