Turkey will carry out observation flight over the territory of Russia
Turkey in the period from 3 to 7 August will conduct an observation flight over Russia under the open skies Treaty, said the head of the national Center for reducing nuclear threat Sergei Ryzhkov.

"in the period from the 3rd to the 7th August 2015 in the framework of implementation of the international Treaty on open skies mission of Turkey will perform an observation flight over Russian territory on the Turkish aircraft observations of CN-235", He said.

He explained that in the process of flying the agreed route of the Russian Experts in the cabin will be kept under control by strict observance of the flight parameters and the use of the contractual instrument.

Aircraft observations of CN-235 belongs to the class of aircraft that are not designed to use any weapons. The plane and installed the surveillance equipment (cameras) have passed an international examination, which was attended by Russian Experts, which eliminates the use of technical means, not provided for by the Treaty on open skies.

The Treaty on open skies was signed in 1992 and became one of the measures to strengthen confidence in the European Union after the Cold war. It's been around since 2002 and allows the participating countries to openly collect information about military forces and activities of one another. The Contract includes the vast number of NATO countries, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and neutral Sweden and Finland. Typically, the flights Russia and NATO countries are conducted on a reciprocal basis.
