Sweden and Denmark will carry out observation flight over Russia
Sweden and Denmark under the Treaty on open skies will perform From 10 to 14 August Observation flight over Russia and Russia over Italy, said chief of the Russian national centre for reducing nuclear threat Sergei Ryzhkov.

Denmark and Italy are in NATO, Sweden is a neutral country.

"From 10 to 14 August 2015 in the framework of implementation of the international Treaty on open skies, a joint mission of Sweden and Denmark will carry out Observation flight over the territory of the Russian Federation on the Swedish observation plane SAAB-B," said Ryzhkov. Russian Experts will monitor compliance with the flight parameters and the use of surveillance equipment under the Treaty on open skies.

"Observation flights are conducted in order to support greater openness and transparency in the military activities of States parties to the Treaty, as well as strengthening security through confidence building measures," said Ryzhkov.

The Treaty on open skies was signed in 1992 and became one of the measures to strengthen confidence in the European Union after the Cold war. It's been around Since 2002 and allows the participating countries to openly collect information about military forces and activities of one another. The Contract includes the vast number of NATO countries, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and neutral Sweden and Finland. Usually the flights Russia and NATO countries are conducted on a reciprocal basis.
