Inspectors from Russia will carry out observation flight over Germany
Russian inspectors in the period from 24 to 28 August will carry out Observation flight over the territory of Germany under the Treaty on open skies, has told to the correspondent the head of the national Center for reducing nuclear threat Sergei Ryzhkov.

"in the framework of implementation of the international open skies Treaty, the Russian team of inspectors will perform an Observation flight on a Russian Antonov An-30B over the territory of Germany. Supervisory greatest flight range of up to 1, 3 thousand kilometers will run from 24 to 28 August 2015 from the open skies airfield Cologne - Bonn", He said.

Russian aircraft observations will perform a flight on a route agreed upon with the observed party and the German Experts on Board will keep under review the procedure for the use of observation equipment and the observance of the provisions stipulated in the contract.

"Observation flights are conducted in order to support greater openness and transparency in the military activities of States parties to the Treaty, as well as strengthening security through confidence building measures. This is the twenty seventh Observation flight of the Russian Federation on the territories of States parties to the Treaty in 2015, " said Ryzhkov.

The Treaty on open skies was signed in 1992 and became one of the measures to strengthen confidence in the European Union after the Cold war. It's been around since 2002 and allows the participating countries to openly collect information about military forces and activities of one another. The Contract includes the vast number of NATO countries, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and neutral Sweden and Finland. Usually the flights Russia and NATO countries are conducted on a reciprocal basis.
