The head of the European Parliament (EP) Martin Schulz and the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman called on EU countries in time to finish the ratification of the Treaty on the unity between Kiev and the EU.

"We look forward to a full entry into force of the Treaty of Union between Ukraine and the EU from 1 January 2016, and call on the parliaments of member States of the EU, which had not yet ratified, in time to finish the procedure," according to the General statement on the Internet office of the Ukrainian Parliament.

The parties also emphasize that before the end of the year expect a positive decision on visa liberalization, which will bring tangible benefits to Ukrainian citizens.

Exactly a year earlier, Ukraine and the European Parliament ratified the Association agreement with the EU, part of which is the provision on the free trade area (FTA). Russia expressed concern about the introduction from 1 January 2016 to the provisions of the FTA and fears of an influx of duty free items from the EU through Ukraine. Kiev and the EU are trying to reach a compromise with the Russian side.
