Russian President Vladimir Putin unilaterally declared a 10-hour "humanitarian pause" in Aleppo on Friday, said a senior official of Russia.

"The decision was made on the introduction of the humanitarian pause in Aleppo, November 4, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (3 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern time)," Russian General staff chief Valery Gerasimov said in its statement on Wednesday.

The fighting in the besieged city is becoming more deadly, during the rebel attack on regime-held parts of Aleppo killed 84 people over the weekend. Also injured 280 people in the Western part of Aleppo. Syrian rebels stepped up attacks on Western Aleppo to try to break the siege mode and try to hold the food, fuel and other necessities.

Several previous attempts to introduce a pause failed. Moreover, both parties accused each other of violating the truce. The most recent pause, which was appointed at the end of October was successful. The truce lasted several days, although originally it was scheduled for 8 hours. But this pause ended with renewed fighting.

Washington recalled bilateral talks with Russia this month after the collapse of a brief cease-fire in Aleppo.
