The government of the South Asian countries have sent letters to several companies regarding a new fleet of military aircraft that will be produced jointly with local firms. The potential deal, according to experts, could cost up to $12 billion.

The country is faced with a higher price list for fighters, as government regulations require that most of the production took place in India. Requirement, which is part of the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra modi "Made in India", believed to have been a checkpoint in the latest deal, military aircraft of India with France. This transaction, which originally was supposed to provide Indian air force 126 fighter Rafale fell through due to disputes over local point of production. Under the final terms of sale agreed upon by India and France last month, India will get only 36 aircraft.

Lockheed Martin (LMT) went even further, offering to make India the sole global production center for its F-16 fighters, if he is offered a deal.
