Miners in Ukraine have declared an indefinite hunger strike over wage arrears
Nearly 300 miners, state mine number 10 "Novovolynsk" in Volyn region declared an indefinite hunger strike from-for debts on a salary which is not paid since August of this year, said the head of the Independent trade Union of miners of Ukraine (npgu) Mikhail Volynets.
"About 50 of the miners of the first shift of the mine number 10" Novovolynsk ", said the hunger strike because of unpaid wages for the last 3 months. They are joined by miners on other shifts (total of Almost 300 people)", where he wrote on Facebook.



according to Volynets, the country's debt on a salary to miners amounts to UAH 7 million ($273 thousand). Also, the miners demand to continue funding the construction of the mine and meeting with energy Minister Igor Nasalik. Before the miners of mine number 10 "Novovolynsk" blocked the road near the customs crossing "Yagodyn" on the borderline with Poland, demanding payment of salary arrears. The miners also demand that the government finish the construction of new mines, which should provide work for miners from closed mines in the area. However, now the Ukrainian government and the Ministry decided to curtail the construction and transform the mine dewatering. Over the past period of time, Ukrainian miners many times staged demonstrations of disagreement. Mostly, their requirements are related to the repayment of debts on wages. Later, the head of the Ministry Igor Nasalik said about the Almost complete repayment of debts to miners.
