On this day, exactly 8 years ago, when the world watched the opening of the Beijing Olympics, Saakashvili was at one time the President of Georgia, said that the military operation in South Ossetia will not. And the same evening at struck Tskhinvali, the Georgian "Grad". The first impact was on the order of the Russian peacekeeping forces. Multiple rocket launchers were beaten at the barracks where the soldiers slept, 37 peacekeepers were killed. What is left of the barracks, now a memorial. Remember those terrible days in the main square of Tskhinval gathered hundreds of citizens. There is not one family untouched by the events of August 2008. Women and children hiding in the basement, and the men stood up to defend the homeland. The battle went all over the city. The local militia managed to knock out a few tanks drove into town. The ammunition exploded with such force that a multi-ton tank the tower a third was included in the concrete Foundation. The tower now stands here as a monument.

Those who tried to leave the city, were shot at close range. Dozens of cars with women and children was blown up. By the end of the second day in Tskhinvali burned almost all the houses. There was no water, no food, no electricity, no phone. When many had lost hope. But at the same time in basements and fighting positions passed the news that Russian troops entered: there was an operation to enforce peace. The residents of South Ossetia say that there will never forget that Russia saved them.
