In new York people were victims of synthetic marijuana In new York many victims of synthetic marijuana. The drug turned people into zombies on the streets of new York. It was a strange scene: dozens of people with blank stares, stumbling walked through the city. One of the witnesses Brian Arthur put the record on Facebook.

"When I was walking down the street, I saw some were sitting on the pavement or just stumbled on each other or on other objects," said Arthur. "It was like a scene from a zombie movie."

33 people sent to local hospitals. They were under the influence of synthetic drugs known as K2. Designed to mimic marijuana, a man-made drug has much more potent effects.

K2 is produced by spraying various chemicals on plants. They are then crushed and smoked. Many users experience confusion, hallucinations, palpitations and even seizures.

Police say it is sold in small grocery stores of the area. A secret correspondent of CBS News found this drug at the corner store for $5.

The use of K2 is growing across the country. The CDC reports that over 5 months received more than 3,500 calls about toxic poisoning in connection with the use of synthetic marijuana.

Drug traffickers are one step ahead of Federal law enforcement. As soon as the authorities banned a recipe, manufacturers come up with another.
