Residents of Uzhhorod and Dnipro advocated a special status for the Russian language
Petition of citizens of Ukrainian cities Dnepr (former Dnepropetrovsk) and Uzhgorod on granting the Russian language a special regional status score the required number of votes, they are now obliged to consider local government.

The Petition from Uzhgorod stated that " increasingly, attempts are being made to reduce the importance of the Russian language in the cultural space of Ukraine, and does not consider explicitly the negative consequences of such steps, beginning with raising the artificial tension in society, and ending with the risk to be left out of the big Russian-speaking cultural heritage." The city Council of Uzhgorod said that the meeting " is not empowered to appeal to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for adoption of a new law...". At the same time the Council noted that the regional authorities conduct " systematic work aimed at the development and support of the Ukrainian language and languages of national minorities, for example Slovak, Czech, Hungarian, Russian, Armenian, Gypsy ". Remember, the Ukrainian authorities are not limited to declared in the country de-communization, and try to belittle the importance of the Russian language in Ukraine, although not repeatedly stated that the Russian-speaking population should not be afraid of the policy of the new leadership. So, in October it was announced that in the next two months, with train stations in Ukraine will remove the signs in Russian. A similar resolution was approved in respect of airports.
