The United States and South Korea defend against DPRK ballistic missile system The U.S. and South Korea agreed to deploy advanced military defense system that could intercept North Korean missiles after the test by Pyongyang in defiance of UN resolutions.

After several months of negotiations, the two governments said they are in the final stage of negotiations about the system called Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), which must be installed.

Yoo jeha-sung, the head of the Bureau for defense policy of South Korea said that it would be "a defensive measure" to "protect the Alliance's military forces from North Korea's weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles."

"The system will focus exclusively on the North Korean nuclear and missile threats and will not be directed towards any country," Yu said at a joint press conference with the participation of US officials and South Korea.

Last month, Pyongyang launched two missiles towards the sea of Japan, also known as the East China sea.
