Migrants are dying at sea trying to reach Europe Thousands of people fleeing the civil war in Syria and sectarian conflict have risked their lives and boarded the ships and boats leaving ports.

Some of the ships were not seaworthy and was falling apart even on land. So in the last few days have been saved 2,700 migrants and refugees, according to the international organization for migration in Rome.

One of the boats, which was originally overcrowded capsized in the Mediterranean sea. Passengers tried to move to the left side of the vehicle to align the ship, but it still turned over.

The Italian team threw life jackets and circles in the bubbling water. About 562 migrants were rescued, but 5 people were killed, said the Navy. Rescuers used lifeboats, a helicopter and the second ship of the Navy.

The sea was calm when the boat overturned. The water temperature was about 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit), according to the National oceanic and atmospheric administration.

The headquarters of IOM in Geneva, said that cases of death on all routes to Europe. In 2015, more than 3,700 migrants died crossing the Mediterranean trying to reach Europe, said in a statement. So far this year, 1370 people were killed - 24% less than in the same period a year ago (1792 deaths).

Many of the ships heading towards Italy and the Italian Navy takes part in rescue operations on a regular basis.
