Obama will visit the Japanese city of Hiroshima President Barack Obama will become the first sitting us President to visit the Japanese city of Hiroshima, said Tuesday at the White house.

Obama will make a historic visit to Hiroshima in late may to visit a place where tens of thousands of Japanese civilians were killed as a result of a nuclear explosion at the end of the Second world war. White house officials have questioned whether the presence of Obama be considered an apology for the use of nuclear weapons.

The white house said the United States is not obliged to officially apologize to Japan for using atomic bombs in August 1945. Instead, officials say that this visit will serve as a reminder of the terrible destruction that nuclear weapons can cause.

"Obama will not revise the decision to use the atomic bomb at the end of the Second world war," wrote Ben Rhodes, Deputy adviser of Obama on national security, on Tuesday. "Instead, he offers a perspective focused on our common future".

The nuclear deal brokered between Iran and Western powers is ridiculed by Republicans, and prospective GOP candidate Donald trump suggested that countries such as Japan and South Korea should have access to nuclear weapons. Obama called the idea dangerous, and said it speaks to the fact that trump has no idea about foreign Affairs.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will accompany Obama during his visit to Hiroshima. The President of the United States at the "atomic bomb Dome" memorial of memory of nearly 80 thousands of Japanese victims of atomic weapons.

Obama and his advisers have long discussed the President's trip to Hiroshima. During his first visit to Japan in 2009, Obama expressed his desire to stay in one of the cities before leaving the country.

"Memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are etched in the minds of the world, and I'm honored to have the opportunity to visit these cities during my presidency," he said.
