Dress Marilyn Monroe sell for $3 million The house of Julien auctions in Los Angeles is going to auction the most valuable garment of the actress Marilyn Monroe.

Beige, rhinestone-encrusted dress Marilyn Monroe in which she sang for President John F. Kennedy "happy Birthday" is being sold at auction in Los Angeles.

Created by Jean-Louis, the dress was sold for $1.27 million at a Christie's auction in 1999, making it the most expensive personal item of clothing ever auctioned. According to some estimates, the starting price this time will be $3 million.

"It's hard to say how much the thing will sell, but we believe that will be sold at a price more than twice the current rating," said Darren Julien, President and CEO of Julien auctions. "It really is the most important artifact from the career of Marilyn, which was exhibited at the auction."

Marilyn Monroe wearing the famous dress at the 45th birthday party for Kennedy, held in new York at Madison Square garden on 19 may 1962. The auction will also be a number of other personal things of Monroe, including used tube of lipstick, jewelry, cigarettes and a few other dresses that also are expected to attract considerable interest.
