Thousands of people are fleeing Eastern Aleppo Thousands of people are fleeing from the Eastern, rebel controlled part of Aleppo. The end is near. This is the beginning of the end of the uprising against the regime of Bashar al-Assad, which began March 15, 2011, and was once called "Arab spring".

When Aleppo in 2012 joined the rebellion it seemed, then, only a matter of time before the regime collapses. In the already badly battered neighborhood "Salahadin", a masked militant said he was confident the victory was close. "We will win because we have faith - we have faith," he said. "In God we trust."

But at that time there were also allegations that the opposition is divided, and in some of the fractions showed signs of extremism. "We're leaving town. These people are no better than the regime. In fact, they are worse," retorted the woman, without stopping.

Russia came to the aid of Assad in September 2015 with massive Russian support in the air and help from Iran, rebels everywhere are losing ground. Turkey supports the faction of the Free Syrian army along the Northern border of Syria, and the United States supports the so-called Syrian democratic forces in the North-East, but both of these groups are focused on fighting ISIS and not the regime.

The Obama administration, which demanded the overthrow of Assad, which calls for democracy and human rights in Syria, in the end, can do little to change the course of events. The fight against ISIS took precedence over everything else.
