Russia and China on Monday vetoed a resolution of the UN Security Council calling for a ceasefire in the Syrian city of Aleppo to deliver aid in war-torn area.

The United States and Russia are orally argued in the vote, which calls for a seven-day truce. Venezuela also rejected the resolution. The Syrian regime continues to bomb the East Aleppo to support their troops, part of an operation to seize control over the area, being rebels for more than four years. Dozens of people were killed in the strikes and gun battles between regime forces and rebels since forces entered the area on 26 November, say activist groups.

The rebels have hit Russian mobile hospital in Aleppo, killing one medic and wounding two doctors, according to the state news Agency Sputnik of Russia, with reference to the press service of the Ministry of defence. Russia began to send help and to establish mobile clinics after hospital in the Eastern part of Aleppo was blown up. Russia is accused of destruction of medical institutions. Russia supports the Syrian government forces through aerial bombing.

Russia reported that there was progress made in talks between Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry, and that the call to vote was a bad tactic. Lavrov, speaking at a press conference in Moscow before the vote, said that the cease-fire will allow the rebels to regroup.
