In Indonesia, the earthquake killed 52 people In Indonesia this morning there was an earthquake. Rescuers combing the rubble in search of survivors after the tragedy in Aceh in Indonesia. At least 52 people were killed, according to the National Agency for disaster management in Indonesia.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 has damaged many houses, shops and mosques in the area, Pidi Jaya, some of which were completely destroyed. The disaster has struck when many residents were preparing for early morning prayer.

Indonesia's President Joko Widodo sent immediate assistance to Aceh on Wednesday. No tsunami warning was not issued. The epicenter was 12 miles (19 km) South-East of the town of Sigli in Aceh province.

Aceh province is no stranger to natural disasters - in 2004, more than 80 thousand people died after the tsunami that swept across Indonesia, with the result that millions of people were left homeless.

Major earthquakes are quite common around Indonesia, which lies on the infamous ring of fire, fault lines surrounding the Pacific basin.

The earthquake on Wednesday, is the second major earthquake in Indonesia, which occurred in 2016. In March an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 points fell on the southwest coast of Sumatra, but despite the initial warning, no tsunami, no lethal outcomes were registered.
