In India collapsed coal mine In Eastern India due to landslide collapsed a huge coal mine at least 30 people were killed, say police. Superintendent of police Hari Lal Chowhan said that 5 bodies were pulled from the rubble. The exact number of those trapped is unknown.

He added that about 20 vehicles were buried during the landslide. Causes of the landslide is still being investigated.

Disaster struck the mine on Thursday evening local time, but rescuers were unable to begin its work immediately because of the lack of equipment, according to police.

Hari confirmed that the national response team for natural disasters (NDRF) is currently at the scene.

"I mourn those killed in the mine in "Jharkhand". My prayers are with those trapped inside," he said on Twitter.

Mine is in "Jharkhand" - one of the largest coal-producing state in India. India is one of the three largest consumers of coal in the world, and is expected to surpass the United States in terms of coal consumption by 2030.
