Taiwan on Wednesday launched fighter jets in response to the movement of aircraft carriers China in the Taiwan Strait, it is reported, in accordance with a government-run Central new Agency of Taiwan.

The Chinese vessels moved through the waters of Shantou in Southeast China's Guangdong province early on Wednesday morning and further North, according to CNA citing the Ministry of defence. The Agency stated that the ships were "to the West of the middle line of the Taiwan Strait", or closer to mainland China. By Thursday morning, the aircraft carrier "Liaoning" has completed the passage through the Strait, according to the news Agency.

The President of Taiwan Tsai ing-Wen, who is in Nicaragua, was informed of the situation and requested that officials in Taipei have closely followed the movement of Chinese vessels, said CNA. Relations between Taiwan, China and the United States became strained as the President-elect, Donald trump spoke to Cai in a telephone conversation in December, turning decades of diplomatic Protocol. China regards Taiwan as a breakaway province, and in 1979 the United States recognized the demand of Beijing that Taiwan is part of China.

According to analysts, this was the second time China's aircraft carrier moved through the Strait, and despite the growing tension between them, this step should not be automatically considered provocative.
