In Malaysia sank catamaran with tourists At least 3 people were killed after a catamaran sank off the popular tourist island in Malaysia on Sunday, according to Chinese state media. The boat, which was carrying mostly Chinese nationals, sank in rough seas off the coast of Sabah.

At a press conference Sunday, the Prime Minister's Department of Malaysia said that the fishermen have rescued 23 people, Xinhua reported. According to the Agency's Director General Malaysian Maritime enforcement proceedings, Ahmad Puzi AB Kaha, rescued 23 people, three of them later died, said Xinhua. Cause of death unknown.

At least 31 people, including 28 Chinese tourists were on a catamaran around the island which is popular with tourists. The boat, believed to have sunk near the island "Mangalam" after she sailed from Kota Kinabalu and two crew members managed to get to earth to seek help, the report said.

The incident occurred during the celebration of Chinese New year. Marine police, Navy and air force conducted a search that was hampered by bad weather, told Xinhua.
