The Venezuelan Parliament has accused Maduro coup Venezuelan opposition calls for revolution. The Supreme court of Venezuela has deprived the National Assembly of its powers. The court ruled that all powers granted by the legislature, will be transferred to the Supreme court, which will be staffed by loyalists of the government.

This decision effectively means that the three branches of the Venezuelan government will be controlled by the ruling United socialist party. The opposition was removed from the agenda. Prominent opposition leaders has called on the government of President Nicolas Maduro's "dictatorship."

"Nicolas Maduro staged a coup, said on Thursday the President of the National Assembly, Julio Borges. "This ruling means that Nicolas Maduro alone has all authority to make laws, to assign contracts to carry external debt and chase other Venezuelans". The decision sent shock waves throughout the region. The Peruvian government broke off diplomatic relations with Venezuela. The Supreme court ruling stated that the judiciary will carry out all the legislative powers which usually belong to the National Assembly, which has an opposition majority from January 2016.

Former presidential candidate and opposition leader Henrique Capriles denounced the decision during a trip to neighboring Colombia on Thursday. "In Venezuela we have a government operating outside the Constitution. Now in Venezuela there is a dictatorship, they crossed the border," said Capriles.
