The US President Donald trump said that he thought about "that Russian thing" when he decided to dismiss the Director of the FBI James Comey, who led the investigation of the alleged intervention of Russia in election 2016.

Speaking to NBC News, trump said: "When I decided to just do it, I said to myself: I know, you know, Russia with trump is fiction, it's the excuse the Democrats for what they lost." His statements undermine the views of other officials of the administration, including Vice-President Mike Pence and senior adviser Kellyanne Conway, who both stated that the decision to dismiss the Komi was based on the recommendation of the Deputy attorney General.

The Deputy General Prosecutor Rod Rosenstein said that Komi was fired due to his work with the investigation of a personal mail server, Hillary Clinton, namely his decision not to file any charges and a press conference that the Komi Republic was held to explain his rationale.

The dismissal of Komi went through Washington, and some critics trump raised Parallels with the dismissal of the Watergate era.
