The pair began dating in 2007, but split briefly last year blaming their hectic work schedules. They rekindled their romance in August, although there have been repeated claims they were on the verge of splitting. The pair recently went on a make-or-break holiday to Costa Rica, where they discussed their future together.

Although they were still together when they returned from the trip, they have now parted ways after Reggie apparently admitted he couldn?t see himself settling down with Kim.

"Kim has been pushing for marriage. She feels it`s the next step for her and Reggie. But Reggie knows deep down in his heart that he doesn`t want to marry Kim. He basically put it on the line for her - he wants a wife that is a support system to him and would be a stay at home mom to his children," a source told RadarOnline. "Reggie loves Kim but he knows that`s just not her. He loves her drive and ambition, and he thinks she`s amazing, he truly loves her, but he knows she`s just not the right kind of girl for him to marry."

It is understood Reggie and Kim have agreed not to talk about their split in public, and are keen to remain friends.

Kim`s hectic schedule is again said to have caused tension between the couple. She is currently in Miami shooting a reality show with her sisters Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, and has lots of other work on the horizon.

American football star Reggie is also busy with his team the New Orleans Saints, and has been spending increased amounts of time partying with friends. Last week, he attended Robin Thicke`s birthday party in New York.

"It was a long time coming," a source explained. "She never sees him. She`s the world`s busiest human being."
