The cause of a diplomatic crisis in Qatar Qatar has concluded a number of secret agreements with its neighbours in the Gulf in 2013 and 2014 by banning the support of the opposition and hostile groups in these countries, as well as in Egypt and Yemen.

The existence of the agreements was known, but both the content and the documents themselves were kept secret due to the sensitivity of the issues involved. It turned out that the Gulf countries had accused Qatar of violating these two agreements, which caused the worst diplomatic crisis in the middle East for decades.

The implementation of the agreements was one of the six principles that the Gulf countries have set as requirements for correcting of relations with Qatar in a statement issued last week. Qatar accused Saudi Arabia and the UAE in violation of the spirit of the agreement and connivance "by the attack on the sovereignty of Qatar."

The first agreement is handwritten and is dated November 23, 2013 - signed by the king of Saudi Arabia, Emir of Qatar and the Emir of Kuwait. It sets out obligations to avoid any interference in the internal Affairs of other Gulf countries, including with the exception of financial or political support "deviant" groups that used to describe anti-government activist groups.

The second agreement, entitled "top secret" and dated 16 November 2014, adds the king of Bahrain, crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Prime Minister of the UAE. It specifically mentions the commitment of the signatories to maintain the stability of Egypt, including preventing the use of "al-Jazeera" as a platform for groups or figures that challenge the Egyptian government.

It includes provisions prohibiting the support of the Muslim brotherhood, as well as external groups in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, which threaten the security and stability of the countries of the cooperation Council of the Gulf countries, the group of six countries, which includes Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.

The representative of Qatar said in a statement that Saudi Arabia and the UAE "violated the spirit of the agreement".
