Published photos of the first overseas military base China Published new satellite images, the first foreign military base in China. The images show that the military base bigger and safer than previously thought.

Two images, courtesy of Stratfor Worldview and Allsource Analysis, show the base in Djibouti, located in a strategic choke point in the horn of Africa, which is heavily fortified with three levels of security. This type of construction corresponds to the well-known Chinese practices to strengthen their military bases. Underground structures can hide any activity as well as ensuring protection of vehicles or objects that are important to the Chinese mission in Djibouti.

China sent troops to the base at the beginning of this month. The United States, France and Japan also have permanent military bases, but it is reported that they are not as heavily fortified. The Ministry of defence of China, touted base as a way for the people's liberation army to help peace and security in the region, providing funds for operations against piracy and humanitarian assistance.

Analysts say that this base is part of China's efforts to create a truly global naval forces able to conduct operations around the world - the so-called "blue water Navy".
But the design of the database also indicates that it will be used for more than naval purposes, according to the analysis. At the base is asphalt and hangars large enough to accommodate various types of helicopters, but not planes fixed wing aircraft, such as drones or fighters. These additions will allow the database also have air capabilities.
