In Venezuela, elections to the new authority President Nicolas Maduro thanked the "brave people of Venezuela" for the vote in the disputed election for a new Constituent Assembly, which will have the right to rewrite the Constitution of the country.

The elections will allow Maduro to replace the current legislature of Venezuela - the National Assembly - the new Assembly, consisting of 545 members, all appointed by his administration. The opposition boycotted the elections as a fraud and called for mass protests.

Deadly clashes between protesters and police marred the voting on Sunday that followed weeks of violent street protests in which many people were killed or injured.
