In Turkey 500 people appeared in court About 500 people accused of plotting to overthrow the Turkish government last year, appeared before the court.

At the courthouse specially built for the handling of cases related to the coup attempt, 486 people were arraigned on long list of charges, including attempting to assassinate the President, leading an armed terrorist organization, according to state news Agency Anadolu.

About 250 people were killed in the attempted coup in July 2016, many of which were Turkish civilians. Anadolu reports that the Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen was one of the seven people who officially charged in absentia. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused the Pilgrim that he was able to make a coup attempt. Gulen, who lives in exile in Pennsylvania, denies involvement in the plot.

The indictment, which is more than 4500 pages, requires life imprisonment without the right of parole for 50 accused. It accuses the defendants in the bombing of the Turkish Parliament, roads and bridges around the presidential Palace and the special forces on the aircraft. Among the accused are generals who allegedly watched a coup attempt, pilots, and civilian coordinators. One of the pilots accused of urchin F-16 aircraft, which fell by Parliament.

Turkish courts have held several mass trials of the alleged conspiracy, and the government continues large-scale cleaning of public institutions after the riots.
