At least 5 people died in the floods in the Indian capital Mumbai.

The relentless downpour hit the low-lying parts of the city early in the morning on Tuesday, and some areas are flooded by 12 inches of rain. According to weather forecasts, the rain will continue for the next 48 hours before it will start to decrease.

32-year-old woman died after fell into a sewer filled with rain water in Kalve. In another incident, the body of 28-year-old man was found near a drain in the Korum. Three year old girl also fell into the sewer, but it is still not found, said in an interview with CNN, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep malvi junction.

Another 3 people died in two separate incidents of destruction of huts, confirmed by the authorities. Prime Minister Narendra modi urged people in the affected areas stay safe and "take all necessary precautions after a heavy rain" in a series of messages on Twitter.

Since June, more than 1,200 people were killed across India and neighboring Bangladesh after the catastrophic floods of the monsoon, which has spread through both countries, affecting more than 41 million people.
