The reason for the cancellation of the meeting , according to Secretary of the White house, is a high density schedule of the President of the United States. Earlier, Russia and the United States reaffirmed their desire to hold a summit meeting during the APEC summit.

Trump himself praised the talks with Vladimir Putin and hoped that the Russian President will help to influence North Korea. In addition, as one of the issues discussed was designated the situation in Ukraine and its settlement.
