Supergrass have split up The British indie band - who had hits in the 90s with feelgood summer singles `Alright`, `Sun Hits the Sky` and `Pumping On Your Stereo` - have agreed to part ways after 17 years and six studio albums together.

The four piece group - consisting of singer-guitarist Gaz Coombes, drummer Danny Goffey, bassist Mick Quinn and keyboard player Rob Coombes - cited "musical differences" as the reason for the split.

The band issued a statement, saying: "Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. We still love each other but, cliche notwithstanding, musical differences have led to us moving on and of course we all wish each other well in the future."

Disappointed fans immediately started sending tributes for the group via twitter.

Yermam tweeted: "Supergrass have split? Genuinely a bit gutted about that. Last album was their best in a while. Thought they were unsplituppable (sic)."

PlugSheffield tweeted: "Massive disappointment. They were my gig of 2008"

The band will play four farewell dates in Glasgow, Manchester, London and Paris in June for more information on tickets visit www.gigsandtours.com.
