The 26-year-old Dutch supermodel and the British comedian, 38, said "I Do" in an £80,000 ceremony at the city`s lavish Claridges hotel after one year of dating. Lara wore a flowing cream-coloured gown with gold brocade and a lace-trimmed train designed by Ricardo Tisci of Givenchy, while David donned a grey morning suit.

Both bride and groom sobbed as they said their vows, which were described as "simple, but wonderfully poignant".

The half-hour ceremony was followed by a reception in the ballroom of the Mayfair hotel, which was filled with £10,000 worth of white roses. Guests dined on a three-course meal prepared by top chef Martyn Nail, which included lobster salad and seared sea bass.

After the speeches, David`s comedy partner Matt Lucas brought the house down by wheeling in the wedding cake dressed as fat fighter Marjorie Dawes from the pair`s BBC comedy Little Britain.

"The funniest moment was when Matt came in," fellow British comedian Ronnie Corbett told British newspaper The Daily Mail. "He`d taken all the trouble to bring a wig and costume and brought in the cake dressed up as his Little Britain character. It brought a huge cheer.

"The whole general atmosphere was of loveliness and glamour from a day gone by. I`ve never seen so many white roses, there were hundreds and I`ve never been to a more beautiful service in my whole life, it was perfect from beginning to end."

After the ceremony, the bride and groom and their 200 guests moved to an after-party at Shoreditch House. Lara changed into a metallic gold mini-dress for the bash, while David replaced his tuxedo with a plain black dinner jacket and trousers.

The event was attended by a host of celebrities including Sir Elton John, fashion designer Tom Ford, former Spice Girls singer Geri Halliwell, pop star Natalie Imbruglia, former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher and comedians Russell Brand and James Corden.

David proposed to Lara with a £100,000 vintage Tiffany & Co ring during a holiday in Los Angeles earlier this year.

The couple are said to be going to Paris for their honeymoon.
