The Twilight co-stars and real-life couple won the Best Kiss prize for the second running. Instead of repeating their 2009 performance, which saw them tease the audience by leaning in to smooch, only to pull away at the last second, they couple shared a short, passionate kiss as the crowd cheered.

The latest instalment in the Twilight film franchise, New Moon, triumphed at the ceremony, taking home five awards, including Best Movie, Best Male Performance for Robert and Best Female performance for Kristen. Robert also won the Global Superstar prize.

In his acceptance speech for the Best Male Performance prize, Robert thanked a whole host of people, including Kristen for being the "lynchpin" of the Twilight franchise and his mother and father for "conceiving" him.

Kristen`s speech was characteristically awkward. She ran onstage and shouted: "I guess Twilight is really awesome, and I agree. Woo!" She then blushed and hurried away.

Tom Cruise performed a musical routine alongside Jennifer Lopez as his character from Tropic Thunder, to the delight of his wife Katie Holmes, who cheered from the audience. Katy Perry and Christina Aguilera took to the stage to showcase their new singles.

Anna Kendrick, Beyonce Knowles and Amanda Seyfried also took home prizes at the prestigious event.
