Denise Richards is a "hands-on" mom.

The former model - who has two daughters, Sam, six, and Lola, five, with ex-husband Charlie Sheen - revealed her children "always come first" and so she avoids introducing them to anyone she is dating, unless it looks like it will develop into a serious relationship.

She explained: "I`m definitely a hands-on mom. For me it`s about priorities, and my girls always come first. I look at it as having a harmonious house more than balancing - it`s never quite balanced!

"I have a rule - I won`t introduce my girls to anyone I`m dating unless it`s very serious."

The 39-year-old beauty - who split from Sheen in 2006 after four years of marriage - admitted her daughters always amuse her with the unusual things they say.

She added to Mom magazine: "We have dinner every night at the same time - a homemade meal - and we just talk. My girls are always saying funny things; they pick up a lot when I think they aren`t listening. The other day Lola said I looked `spectacular,` which I though was funny.

"And while at a red-carpet event, my daughter told me - quite loudly - that she`d passed gas."
