The Russian tennis team reached second place in revised Federation Cup rankings, the biggest international women`s team tennis championship.

Russia, which has won the tournament four times, climbed up the rankings after a quarterfinal victory against France at the weekend.

The Russian women won 5-3, although they were down 0-2 after the first day of the encounter.

The U.S. team was knocked from second to third place after it lost 1-4 to Belgium in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals Russia will face the current number one, Italy. The Italian team won the championship in 2009 and 2010.

The other semifinals will be played by Belgium and the Czech Republic. Both semis are scheduled for April 16-17.
