The 51-year-old `X Factor` judge popped the question to Mezhgan Hussainy, 38, last year and although she has recently been spotted without her engagement ring and Simon admitted he "wasn`t sure" if they were still engaged, his publicist Max Clifford insists all is well but the pair have no immediate plans to tie the knot.

He said: "You might have to wait 20 years for Simon to plan a wedding - but they are as close as they have ever been."

Simon - who claimed last year he could see himself and make-up artist Mezhgan having "little Simons" one day - recently ruled out ever having children admitting he doesn`t have the "patience" to care for a baby.

Asked if he had now ruled out having children, the 51-year-old music mogul said: "At my age, definitely. The reality is, with the way I live my life, I wouldn`t have the patience. I`d sort of want people born at the age of 10, I think.

"[I thought about it for] a little while, but not seriously. I was sort of probably just in the moment. Truthfully, with the schedule, the crazy hours, I don`t think it would work."
