Kate Winslet is "grateful" for not a wealthy childhood The `Contagion` actress - who has children Mia, 10, and Joe, seven, from her marriages - led a "country bumpkin" life growing up as her father was unable to work following a boating accident, but insists she never felt deprived.

She said: "All I can recall is a happy atmosphere despite the fact money was so tight. We never led a wealthy lifestyle and I am grateful for that. We enjoyed living a kind of country bumpkin way of life.

"We loved camping and never had a package holiday or went to a hotel. You just appreciate everything so much more. I am not cynical about anything."

Kate admits her upbringing has made her down-to-earth and she refuses to get caught up in the trappings of fame.

She added to Reveal magazine: "None of our family have any time for actors` bulls**t - my mother taught me the importance of getting on in life without complaints. She was also never afraid of hard work."
