The Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza are going to have a new addition - a state of the art Museum to house some of Egypt`s most precious artefacts.

´Many of the pieces in the Cairo Museum in the city centre will be moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum on the Giza plateau. It should be completed by 2015.

The current home for the country`s treasures is completely out of date, and is so tightly packed there is not enough space for proper storage or display.

The Cairo Museum is on Tahir Square, which has been the centre for anti-Government protest in the city for the last year. The nearby Cairo Library was burnt down during demonstrations, destroying many valuable books about Napoleon`s invasion two hundred years ago.

The new building at Giza will be a replica of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria. It was built in 2002 to commemorate the fabled Library of Alexandria in antiquity, and is the most advanced in Egypt.
