German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the last working day of the week during the meeting with RF President Vladimir Putin in France called upon Russian leader to help stabilize the situation in Ukraine, reports the AFP news Agency.

" The Chancellor has expressed the conviction that the period after the recognized international community presidential elections shall be used to stabilize the situation, the most in the East of Ukraine. Russia must fulfill its obligations in this matter, " said the official authorized Merkel Stefan Seibert.

The meeting was held behind closed doors in the framework of the events dedicated to the 70-th anniversary of the allied landing in Normandy.
