Petersburg governor took investigation of Cameroonian`s murder under personal control Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko has taken investigation of murder of Cameroonian student Kanem Leon, committed on December 24, under personal control.

"Investigation of the student`s murder is under my personal control. Officials of law machinery will get all necessary conditions for fast and full clearance of the crime", - announced Matvienko.

Governor has also demanded Committee of city heads of universities to control living conditions of foreign students: "I appeal to Committee of heads of universities to control conditions of settling and living of foreign students, spending of their spare time. This especially concerns those students, who come to study in Petersburg from commercial organizations".

"Xenophobia and racism threaten our society. We have to admit serious mistakes in upbringing of the youth, underestimate of extremist tendencies among young people".

As a reminder, group of young people attacked African students on December 24 in St. Petersburg. As a result of assault student of Water Communication University Kanem Leon died from knife wound at neck. Another foreign student was hospitalized in severe state.

Criminal proceedings according to article 105 part 2 of Russian Criminal Code ("murder, committed by group of people") were instituted. Law machinery organs examine all versions and motives of attack, including motive of national hatred and hostility.
