St. Petersburg governor Valentina Matvienko announced that self-made bombs, stuffed with "police" gas, operated in hypermarkets of trade network "Maxidom".

After examination by Military-medical academy, it became evident that malefactors employed gas, which law machinery organs of many countries usually use for dispersal of demonstrations.

Experts of Petersburg center of examination supposed that the matter concerns CS-gas, used for self-defense.

Therefore, Matvienko denied the version that harmless mercaptan gas was sprayed in the stores.

Head state sanitarian doctor over St. Petersburg Igor Rakitin declared: "Carried out investigation has revealed that poison of inhalation action was employed. There was also carbon monoxide in the air with concentration 3 times exceeding the norm. Apparently, it appeared during pyrotechnic explosion, which destroyed the ampoule with poison".

All people, ailing after gas spraying in trade centers, have recovered and are discharged from hospital. Only 3 patients are recommended to stay under observation of doctors for a while.
