Board of Ministry of Education and Science has determined number of budget (free of charge) places for university entrants of 2006.

There will be 528664 places in high educational institutions, which is by 10% less than in 2005. Continuous cutting down of budget places is explained by general reduction of population in the country. According to statistics of the Ministry there were more university entrants in 2005 than school-leavers the same year. It means that graduates of previous years have got an opportunity for high education. Now this tendency will be stopped. By estimate of the Ministry 1.5 millions of people will graduate from school in 2006 and 1.1 millions will enter high educational universities (including commercial places).

Reduction of budget places will affect humanitarian specialties, such as social sciences, pedagogics, culture and art, economics and management. Number of places in technical and natural universities will not be cut-down.

Number of post-graduate places will also reduce. Only 26417 post-graduates and persons working for doctor`s degree will be able to uphold the thesis at the expense of the budget. Post-graduate course in small universities will be closed.

Number of budget places in technical schools will oppositely increase.
