Current year is declared the Year of the humanities, culture and education in Russia - Year of academician Dimitry Likhachev.

As Kremlin press-service informs an appropriate decree "About celebration of centenary of academician D.S. Likhachev" was signed by Russian president Putin.

"Taking outstanding contribution of academician Likhachev to the development of national humanities, culture and education into consideration and in the view of 100-th jubilee in November 2006 I decree to accept suggestion of St. Petersburg administration about celebration of this event", - was said in decree.

Russian government is charged with formation of organization committee and approval of festive events.

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is obliged to inform UNESKO about celebration of 100-th jubilee of the academician in Russia.

All state institutions will participate in preparation and holding of the holiday.
