Scientists planned to drill on the moon channel 100 m English scientists have revealed the details of the lunar mission Lunar Mission One. Namely, they have planned drilling of the moon to a depth of over 100 meters. About this informs BBC News.

According to researchers, the major goal of the mission is conducting research on the South pole of the Earth satellite: experts want to learn more about the Geology of the planet and the possibility of creating it inhabited settlements.

Throughout the mission, expected to be drilled channel depth of 100 meters, evaluated the possibility of placing on the pole of the moon an astronomical Observatory and conducted a search of traces of organic compounds, which could get on the satellite due to a meteorite impact.

Despite the fact that the moon was made of about 50 missions, even 6 - person (in the scale of the American Apollo program), the British believe that the Earth is still poorly studied. Previously, the most thorough drilling Earth satellite (at a depth of 3 m) were carried out by Americans in 1972 in the scale of the Apollo 17 mission.

The study of the South pole of the moon appears to be especially promising, because in his district hosted the bottomless (12 km) from the famous impact crater in the Solar system. They say that it may contain particles of the lunar mantle, which came to the surface of the moon from its depths of more than 4 billion years ago.

Investigation of the old matter may shed light on the nature of the moon, for example, to check the validity of the hypothesis, according to which the satellite appeared more than 4.5 billion years ago as a result of collision of the Earth with the planet Tella.

Send to the South pole of the moon from the descent module scientists intend to 2024. Funds for the project Lunar Mission One will gather with the help of donations. In return, patrons have the opportunity to send fragments of his own hair and photo on the moon.

Using kraudfandingovom platform Kickstarter team Lunar Mission One until the end of 2014 expects to install approximately 700 thousand euros. Data cash will go to funding the starting point of the project. Just the price of the program is estimated at 600 million euros.

Lunar Mission One created with the support of a number of scientific and educational institutions of England, including the University Institute of London and the Open University.
