Timmermans: the EU should continue the policy of punishment concerning Russia
Irina Chumakov. The EU should continue the policy of punishment relative to Russia, said 1st Vice-President of the European Commission Franz Timmermans at the Symposium in London.

"We must continue the policy of punishment relative to Russia, as long as they (the authorities of the Russian Federation - as amended) will not change their behavior and will not return to Minsk agreements," he said.

"We must be sure that the head (Vladimir) Putin is aware that We will not retreat from our core values and We will help Ukraine to stand on his feet and become a free and independent nation," he added Timmermans.

However, he noticed that the EU must be careful in how helps Ukraine to survive economically and financially in this extremely difficult period."

Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
