Pushkov: USA refused to sell arms to Kiev because of the possibility of a split in NATO
According to the comments of the head of Department of the state Duma international Affairs Alexei Pushkov, the U.S. did not want the idea of arms supplies to Ukraine, fear of splitting within the Atlantic community.
"Obama decided until not to supply weapons to the Ukraine because of opposition from Merkel and most of the EU. The United States is afraid of a split with the EU and within NATO, " Pushkov wrote in his own microblog on Twitter. Before Tuesday, the German Ambassador to the United States Peter Wittig said the head of the United States Barack Obama has decided not to supply to Ukraine lethal defensive weapons after talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel on 9 February. So, incessant pleas of Kiev to the United States and its allies (the last time the petition came from the head of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel klimkina during a visit to Japan) had no response. Kyiv authorities May have hoped that the White house will approve the draft law congressmen Mack Thornberry and Adam Smith, introduced at the end of February involving helping Ukraine 1 billion dollars, and among them, the supply of lethal weapons. However, if the message is made after a meeting between Obama and Merkel, true, Kyiv while you may not rely on "lethal" support from the West. Note that on 26 February, the Director of the Intelligence Department of the Pentagon General Vincent Stuart explained that the weapons that the United States have the opportunity to put the Ukrainian army will not give Kiev a significant advantage in the confrontation with the militia. Simultaneously printed illustrated edition Spiegel writes that the attempts of the United States to prevent the world from Ukraine irritate Europe.
