OSCE Secretary General: the Organization was invited to a referendum in Crimea inappropriately
According to the OSCE Secretary General, Lamberto Zannier, observers received an invitation to a referendum in Crimea, but did not accept it due to the mismatch between the standards of the organization.
"We have accepted the invitation to a referendum in Crimea, but it was done improperly. Most importantly, because We were not invited by the Ukrainian authorities ", - quotes the message of the head of the OSCE RIA " Novosti ". OSCE Secretary General also emphasized that Authorized organizations " were not invited to observe preceding the vote campaign, As We always do ". As explained Zannier, " it was risky to confer legitimacy on the process which We have not seen from the beginning "." This is not something We do often, " explained the Secretary General of the OSCE. Sevastopol and the Crimea on March 16 underscored the 1st anniversary of the referendum in which an overwhelming number of voters voted for secession from Ukraine and reunification with Russia. In Crimea for entering the Russian Federation voted 96, 77%, in Sevastopol - 95, 6%. March 21, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on ratification of the agreement on joining of Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia and signed a decree on the formation of the Crimean Federal district.
