Chizhov: Between EU countries, there are significant gaps in the approach to sanctions against Russia
Permanent Commissioner of the Russian Federation to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov believes that within the EU there are "significant gaps" in the approach to the question of penalties with respect to Russia and their renewal.
"It's no secret that between the member countries is quite significant gaps in approaches to sanctions and to their future life. For this reason, the formula used, bears clear signs of a compromise, " said Chizhov, reports news Agency. The EU leaders at a meeting on Thursday agreed Not to renew punishment with respect to Russia and automatically to link this issue with the full implementation of the Minsk agreement on the East-Ukrainian settlement. In the communiqu? of the summit, the EU reported that the European Union States will adopt a conclusion on life economic sanctions against Russia in the coming months. Prior to this, Prime Minister of Estonia Taavi R?ivas and the head of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite made for the renewal of sanctions against Russia during the EU summit. But German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that it is impossible to remove introduced with regard to Russia's punishment subject to the fulfillment of only the first points of the Minsk agreement. At the same time the head of Ukrainian government Arseniy Yatsenyuk after talks with President of the European Council Donald Tusk said in Brussels with discussions on the mitigation of punishment with respect to Russia, however, the limits, according to his statement, will be maintained and even strengthened.
